Re: My New York Office Bloom

OK! I have done this and started today. How exactly does this work? I didn't realize that simply super-dosing Potassium would "fatten up" bananas.

Thanks so much for the advice!

2-hands now...

My New York Office Bloom

Hey everyone!

Last fall, I decided to take one on my smaller Banana plants to my office and set it in the window. I figured it might spice up the place a little and save it from the rigors of a New...

Another New York Bloom!

Hey everybody!
I finally got around to re-potting and splitting my herd of bananas. It took four pots! They were all looking pretty rough due to winter neglect. I had to cut several back. So...

Re: Could this really be happening?!

Even stranger is that this plant was whacked down last fall as I couldn't fit it in my house for the winter. So it's only about 5 feet tall, and it still bloomed! You can see how thick it used to...

Re: Could this really be happening?!

I've been trying for years, so at this point I don't care! They could be miniature, ornamental, inedible faux bananas and Ill still be a proud Papa. :p

Re: Could this really be happening?!

And they said it couldn't be done in New York! WOOHOO!

I actually have no idea what it is. This is the first Banana I ever owned. It was given to me by my mother in law from Texas as a pup, and...

Could this really be happening?!

OK, I've been through this before.

Thought I saw a flag leaf, turned out to be a weird stunted leaf. Thought I saw another, Nope.

This year when I moved my biggest and oldest pot of plants out to...

Re: Basjoo in NY. Would you dig it up?

I would need a very large forklift. That pot is extremely large. :ha:

Basjoo in NY. Would you dig it up?

Hey all,

Well the Basjoo loved the giant pot. It sprouted a crapload of pups as well!

What would you do? Dig it up in the traditional manner for storage in the crawlspace? Or give over-wintering...

Well, the Basjoo loves the big pot!

BUT. Already pupping! What's up with that! Should I cut them off?

Re: Kill em? Let them run?

I guess I need to get on this sooner than later, as THREE more have popped up. Ugh.

I hope splitting this corm now wont have a detrimental affect on flowering.

My other Bananas looked pretty rough after bringing them inside for the winter, but are coming back nicely. New growth on each!

Re: I hope it grows into its container. :)

Yeah, it's got drain holes and it's full of soil...took all day to fill by hand! I transplanted from a "normal" pot. I figure its no different than planting in the ground at this point. I soaked...

Real Ice cream?

Hey everyone!
So I keep reading that most Ice Creams are not really Ice Creams. Seems like a lot of misrepresentation or poor identification going on, accidental or otherwise. I bought this from...

Re: Durians

They taste great...and smell terrible. In some countries it's illegal to eat them in a public place.

Would love to try to grow one though!

Re: discussion of bananas grown in water

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but when I joined i was shocked to learn that conventional wisdom is "don't grow bananas in water". When I bought this red banana three years ago, the nurseryman...
