Re: Why do people bury stuff on their property?

Speaking from my work desk...

In 1992 the EPA put forth the Subtitle D regulations. The biggest and most direct result of this is that all landfills had to meet certain requirements for design and...

Re: Outside Basjoo - when did your corms start growing this year?

Jeff,

Seeing your results when you have the same zone as me makes me a bit jealous. I now declare you to be my 5b banana nemesis!

(seriously, though, awesome growth!)

Re: Outside Basjoo - when did your corms start growing this year?

Huzzah!

I was weeding the banana patch yesterday (which is amazingly easy as there are no bananas) and noticed I have a tiny sprout!

The elephant ears are all sprouting and there is one 3" little...

Re: New house, new chapter

I gotta say, this is one of 4 or 5 threads I check every day regardless of updates. I am amazed and inspired by the transformation of this property.

It really gives me some ideas for my own home...

Okay, we're coming up on a month in the ground and not even a twinge of a push from the middle.

I'm beginning to give up hope...

Re: questions for usa forum members

I agree with you on the xenophobia point. It's depressing how insular some of my countrymen can be at times. That same mentality leads all too often to racially motivated ire, and that's a sad...

This will make me sound like a jerk no matter how I phrase it...

Mike,

I'm in the same bucket, except I just dug everything up before the hard freeze on Sunday. I had these in pots last year, but that's really just not an option anymore at the size they're...

Zone 5, Urban center Basjoo?

What's your call?

Will it make it through the winter here? (Omaha, NE)

We've got low wind, bit of a heat island from the urban cement, and direct sun all day for as long as it lasts. But last...

Re: Funky Farmers' Market Find

Kubali, you're dead on. She just kept on trucking. Threw out a really long skinny leaf after this bunch, and now back to big full wide ones.

Weird plant though. I don't think I've ever seen a...

Re: 20 or so new houseplants.

I see we've got some high 20's for overnight temps later this week. I'm going to have to deal with the basjoo in the next couple days.

Last winter I did what you did, Longwoods. But this year my...

Re: Dragonfruit.

So, I finally ate my first Dragon Fruit this week. They were "on sale" (ie actually available in Nebraska) for $6.99 each.

This was a hefty fruit, about a pound and a half with white flesh...

Re: Have you seen a Good Movie Lately?

Chef

Great father/son movie, and highly lauded by many professional chefs for being accurate to the biz. Possibly the best thing I saw this year.
