The number 13 grabs people in many different ways. As for myself I was born on the 13th. In school on Friday the 13th I never had to take a test because they were always cancelled. When I turned 13 years old I was asked to join the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, I met President (not at that time) Ronald Regan and played my music at the Hollywood Bowl. Now, some buildings declear the 13th floor doesn't exist, or does it?

Anyway I was playing Hearts one day, see what I mean.

Richard Yes there is a difference in faith verses superstition. faith is the belief in a higher power and its ability to take action even thou there is not proof. superstitions can be based on almost any Belief be it Omnipotent or not. which brings up the hole idea of Spirituality which i Believe is a vary importing regulating factor in any given society. were as i think the lack of superstitious Behaver would not influence a society in a negative way.

If a coin laying on the ground is not heads up I'll leave it for the next non superstitious person to pick up, unless I know that I dropped it myself. This does not apply to paper money. I can't even remember how or why this started but it's a fun game in a way. Sometimes I'll see a quarter heads down and think how it's going to brighten someones day when they find it. That's about it for me.

My take:

Faith vs Superstition:
Faith is the firm belief in something no matter what the influence
Superstition is believing in something simply because you fear the consequences(alot of religious fanatics fall into this category IMO)

Behavior vs Society
Behavior is influenced by society during the early years of ones life. Most people continue their lives that way, while a select few try and use their behavior to influence society.

Science vs Passion
Science is the pursuit of knowledge and understanding
Passion is the vehicle for which to pursue that knowledge

Objects vs Action
umm.....got me there.

Richard, the answer to your question is simple. They fall at the same rate.

Both as they approach the ground

! Actually, for the same distance, they will strike the ground at the same time. Feathers (opposed to plastic) might be a problem due to atmospheric resistance BUT I love walking on the lines, Luv 13's as much as 14's etc, and Luv black cats (especially on my fave holiday, Samhain!).
Faith & Superstition have the commonality of a belief in what's unknown. Me? I prefer to leave those things a mystery - makes it more exciting

A long while back I used to read a lot about old European agrarian customs ie: superstitions, and to this day I try to think of them as I do my own gardening.
