What's the best way to catch a Cat?
I have stray under an out building and would like to catch it, but not get attacked.. Its a nice looking animal. It's very long, and has very short hair. Not to mention the dog other than Jack likes to eat cats, and don't want to see that happen either.. Your input would be greatly appreciated.. :^)

Live traps usually work well. If you don't have any, check your local humane society or shelters or animal control to see if they have one you can borrow.

Re: What's the best way to catch a Cat?
Glove up--heavy gloves. Wear long sleeves and long pants--heavy material on both. Put down some food. Sit down beside the food then call "kitty, kitty, kitty" interspersed with cooing, schmooshing noises. Have a big box with lid nearby. Try to get the SO involved; catching a cat is generally a 4 handed job.
Or do what wolfy recommended. Wouldn't hurt to see if there's a feral cat rescue place nearby; they have the capture part down pat.

Re: What's the best way to catch a Cat?
Get yourself a big live trap and stick in a open can of cat food beyond the paddle. Grease up the main door trigger with petroleum jelly. You will get lots of use with it for all the other critters later. Coon and opossum love apple slices.

Re: What's the best way to catch a Cat?
Install one of those sandboxes shaped like a big green turtle and leave the lid off of it. My neighbor swears it draws cats that p**p in it.
Live trap and sardines work well also. Get canned sardines in oil not hot sauce or mustard. Critters can't resist. I was wondering how Wylie E Coyote might do it...... You might have a litter under there also. Last edited by cincinnana : 08-20-2014 at 07:48 AM. |
