Default Call me Scrooge!

• Giving gifts to children can be a real joy, to see their eyes light up – ...and then play with the box.
• Gifts to adult children, who are still struggling financially can also be rewarding, - if you know, what will
really be appreciated
• But gift exchange between adult equals often turns out to be misplaced and a waste of good
resources
• If you want to show appreciation, give cards, flowers, hugs, time together etc. and then go shopping
together on boxing day for half price

How often do you find a piece of clothing, which looks great on the hanger, but when you try it on it does
not fit or ‘hang right’? You just hang it up again and look for something more appropriate.

You know, that your brother, sister or friend plays tennis and would like a new racket. You buy them one
for Christmas, a Slazenger, but unknown to you they had their heart set on a Head, metal frame. They in
turn are now obliged to buy you something with the money, they could have used for the racket, they
actually wanted, which is also a close ‘miss’, but a miss nonetheless.

Give instead some of your time, your company, do things together, like shopping, where each buys their
own ‘gift’. It reduces the pre-holiday stress, makes you a more relaxed person and more fun to be with.

Of course that approach requires a mature relationship. It is sure to ‘bomb’ with a new girl-/boyfriend, you
met two months ago.

Have great bargain shopping, which should last until New Year’s Eve.
Olaf

I was very happy that I got 2 new lenses for my camera (a micro lens and a zoom lens) and I also got a tripod/monopod for my camera. Lots of pics of the plants will be coming up soon now! I also got the I phone 4S!

Sherry, Nice I pad! I know 2 people who got the I pad 2, they look very cool (the ipad that is!). The kaleidoscope feature on the Photobooth app takes some pretty interesting pics. I tried it out on one of my palm fronds and it made a really interesing effect!

I got some new plants,

Low Chill Cherry Tree - Stella
Grapes - Blueberry & Crimson

I gave away a bunch of 41 LED flash lights, and a few gift cards. I got my dad a juicer and in 48 hours I think I have had more fresh juice then every before. He has gone juice crazy!

Thumbs up Re: What did you Give & Receive for Christmas?

I really like your post, Olaf. Christmas has become so commercialized anymore that people have forgot the gifts that don't cost money too... like spending quality time, being kind and helpful to others, making sacrifices, etc.

Thanks Alex, I sure am enjoying that iPad. It was way too much money but I couldn't resist. I have until January 8th to return it but it's too amazing. I saw that cool camera effect but have yet to take some shots. I have too many cameras as it is!

Too funny, Worm_Farmer, about your dad going juice crazy. Give him a few weeks...he'll be an absolute fanatic! Sounds like you got some great plants. I'd love to see them.

Iz, I guess your kids don't like pillow pets?! LoL! Cool that you got lots of gardening stuff. I always love getting anything to do with plants. Come to think of it, I haven't got any garden gifts in the last couple of years...maybe people don't want to feed my addiction.

Nannerfunboi...don't ya hate it though when someone gives you a box of crappy chocolates that you don't like? Ever heard of "Re-gifting"?! I saw it on the news the other night...it's where you give a gift someone gave you, away to someone else! The logic was that it was better than throwing the gift away entirely!

I just came on here today thinking i should start the same thread if it wasn't already started!
Our big item was an Omega Juicer!

It's a low RPM, single auger style, great for everything! We have made a green juice in it everyday since we got it. If any of you watch growingyourgreens.com that's where we first heard about it.

We also got a subscription to mother earth news, a book called The Hierloom life gardner by the Baker Creek Seed co people, and a sprouting kit with almost 2lbs of seeds from sproutpeople.org!

Very exciting Xmas!

I'll just hit the high points:

For 15 year old daughter

X-Box 360 w Kinnect and Dance Central 2 This game system is everything a parent could want. Kids love it and you never sit down or use your thumbs! After ten minutes she was sweating and shedding clothes. Definitely not a couch potato game. Very healthy.

For 7 year old son

Too many things! Pirate ship, Navy Seal Boat, Hot Wheels, Army men in tub, Pirates in tub, Medieval men in tubs, Transformers, Construction equipment set to compliment the Hot Wheels of course, rechargeable LED flashlight, Nerf guns, etc.......... Yeah he's spoiled!

For wife

Her favorite perfume (it always fits and she never takes it back score one for me), Wireless trackball mouse for computer (hey she wanted it), new 23" HD monitor (she didn't know she wanted it but she loved it), a laminator (big hit who'd a thunk it), twin DVD players for the back seat (thought these were for kids but she insisted they were hers), two of those crock pots with sealing lids so she won't spill food going to the church dinners (my idea and she loved it more brownie points), a gift certificate for a one hour full body deep muscle massage at a swanky spa (another win) and your going to love this a TC-21O Echo mini cultivator for flower beds and garden. OK I bought it for me but she claimed saying she had always wanted one! Am I a lucky guy or what!

For me

White socks, white tee shirts, grey socks, white underwear (no I'm not saying what style), black socks. What can I say I'm a simple man with simple needs. Yeah right!

I also got a 6 quart Dutch oven and one of those fancy seed planters that digs the furrow, spaces and plants the seed then covers and tamps. No more breaking my back and straining to count those small seeds. Did I mention the promise to let me spend $300.00 at Just Fruits and Exotics to get some more fruit trees and grape vines!

Life is good. Man I got a great wife!

Party Re: What did you Give & Receive for Christmas?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Great Juicer, Luke! I have a juicer too and one of my most favorites to make is carrot/apple juice!

Amazing T.V., Dave! Bet you're loving it!

Your dad is gonna have a blast, Worm_Farmer! Homemade V8...what could be more healthy! When I first got my juicer, I became a bit fanatical too. I think it's normal at first. I still use my juicer but not as often now.

Darkman...I must agree that you really do have a wonderful wife. You sound like you're a pretty thoughtful and loving husband too...rare qualities these days. I notice more and more, just how many good people are married to complete jerks. It's nice to see that you and your wife are good to each other. Happy New Year!

So I've always loved the old black and white twilight zones, and I ended up buying season one for my iPad today. It's got 36 episodes, including the pilot!

Gonna get season two and three later. They've got 36 episodes each as well.

I also used to LOVE The Flintstones when I was a child so I bought season one with 28 episodes...

Just downloading the Twilight Zone shows right now...

The best part is that on January 28, 2012 we will have 35 years of marriage and we are hoping for 35 more.
