Scouting for food? Mushrooms, deers, fish?

Re: The Pretty Good Thread

That's a pretty good question. Here's a pretty good example: Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan: Boy Scouts "Scouting For Food"

Both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts get involved. Our Boy Scout troop will converge on an area divided into six zones and knock on doors. Response is usually very good and the boys enjoy it. It's a pretty good way for them to repay the community for the support they receive.

Re: The Pretty Good Thread

We had pretty good success today, scouting for food. It's interesting coming across homes in various states of condition and trying to speculate how the owners my respond. The boys are sometimes oblivious to things and I had to tell them to skip the home with tall weeds in the front yard and broken windows. Another guy told them "no, I'm broke". Some people are prepared for the annual drive and have bags ready for them to pick up and some people thanked them for their service. One lady thanked me for helping the boys with their project. That made me feel pretty good but mostly like the fact that some people will get some needed help.

I'm aching pretty good, putting steel roofing on my new barn/shed at 12' to 16' above ground level. I got about 432 square feet covered today, about 1,584 to go! Will go faster now that I've got the layout marked and little tricks figured out. Each panel weighs about 75 pounds so it takes a pretty good amount of work to get it lifted in place.

Wow Harvey, that's some seriously hard work! Let's see a picture when you have time. At least you picked some cool weather to do it!

Re: The Pretty Good Thread

I did a pretty good job as a contortionist climbing above and under trusses. I'm not used to using many of those muscles! I planned to take a photo today but forgot.

I had planned to finish it about a month ago but it's pretty good I didn't. I've got about 100 redwood trees along about 800 feet of perimeter of my farm and about 15' of the top of one of them broke off in a strong north wind about two weeks ago and landed on the trusses of my barn. No damage (other than the tree) but several panels my steel roofing would have been bent up pretty good if they were already in place.
