Thanks Sherry! Here is a shot of the only little female I bought. Usually the female bettas don't have a lot of color to them, but I found one that did.

This is one with a reflection, I thought it was a neat shot:

Sorry they are a tad bit blurry! Fish don't pose for pictures!!!

Janan, those are beautiful fish and I located some here in London, but they said that only two females could live together...the males are the prettiest ones though. I wanted a male but didn't think it was right to just have one. Thought it would be lonely.

So...

I ended up getting two little African Dwarf Frogs!!!

Haven't named them yet but here are the two little guys...

This one was making me laugh yesterday...

They live in their own little eco-system. There's a bamboo plant in there with them, providing oxygen and eliminating waste.

Apparently they can live for 2-4 years and longer if you care for them.

Jan - Your picture of the female Betta looks more like a young male to me. The color is pretty bright, and the fins seem a little long. I haven't had them for several years now and, maybe, over time, they've bred a little more color, and length of fins into the females. Lately, I've only seen males in the Petco and Petsmart stores around here.

John, I thought the same thing. They are breeding with more color and better fins in the females though. The cup was labeled veil tailed female so that's what I have been calling her (it). They have a lot of females here at Petco where I bought these as well as the Crown tail, Halfmoon tail, and I forget the other, oh it was Butterfly tail. One was $15 bucks though!!! More than I wanted to pay for a fish that may not live very long!

They are all in their own tanks so I won't worry about it right now. Maybe it is a male Crown tail that would be cool because they were $12.

Sherry actually two females wouldn't do very well together because there would be a dominant one and the other would be picked on all the time. They say the best way is to have at least 6 of the females in one tank. They call it a colony I think.

I was in Bangkok once, and we went to a club, one evening. I asked the young kid waiter if he could get some for me. He said he could, and the next morning I got a call from the hotel front desk saying I had a visitor in the lobby. I went down and met him, and brought 100 pairs back with me. Males were 15¢, and females were 7½¢.

Ok I went to PetSmart today and picked up a much bigger glass aquarium for the froggies...

I got some stuff to decorate with but there's also going to be a real bamboo plant in the aquarium as well...

This is their new adorable little hidey castle...

I have to go back to Green Earth to get the Living Stones though because PetSmart doesn't sell them. The stones act as a filter for any bacteria and waste in the water.

Hopefully I'll have their new home set up for them soon...

Do you keep the male Betta fish separated? I was told they'll kill each other?

I was also told that Bettas and African Dwarf frogs can live together in the same aquarium!!!

Yes, they are all in separate tanks. I wondered if you might get a Betta and put it in with your frogs. They can have tank mates, just not other male Bettas. I think neon tetras are good tank mates for them as well as other smaller non-aggressive fish.

I'm trying to get better at photographing them! It's a work in progress.

Oh so you mean I could get one of the pretty male Betta fish but put another type of fish in there as a companion? It won't kill it?

I could ask at PetSmart and see what they have that might be suitable. It would be way cool to have fish and frogs in the same aquarium.

At some point, I'll be getting another bird. Not yet though. Still miss Henry too much.

Yes you can, they will usually have tank mates posted somewhere, but check with the salesperson and see what they say. Some fish will try to eat their fins (like goldfish), and another aggressive breed wouldn't work either.

I really do like fish and I was told tonight the frogs live at the bottom and the fish swim near the top. Hopefully it will work out for me. I would enjoy having a graceful fish to watch.

Ok then, you've talked me into it. You'll soon see a fish or two in my new aquarium. I just gotta get the living stones first.
