Irrigation controllers have an off switch.After almost 2" of rain three of my neigbors sprinkler systems were running this morning

Amazing, isn't it? During the middle of the rain storm yesterday, the sprinklers on the lawn across the street came on!

As wet and cold as it is now, I can go at least two weeks without watering.

So it detects how much rain falls? Interesting I will have to look into setting up an irrigation system, is it possible to set one up just a for a simple "backyard orchard"?

There are rain sensors and moisture sensors that will controll your irrigation timers.

For my soil, the basic rule of thumb is that every time it rains a 1/4 inch or more I can pause the irrigation for a week. But it does not hold true that 1/2 inch of rain equals a two week pause because the soil does not retain all the moisture. For your soil, you'll need to make observations and measurements over several seasons to determine what is appropriate.

thanks for the article if Ca would take the stance that southern NV has in terms of water use i think the tension over water could be substantially reduced how ever one must not underestimate the fact that Souther NV is a holey new water using district compared to souther Ca that being said one should consider that are infrastructure is many many decades younger with mostly new technologies haven been put in place were as Ca and specifically souther ca has not had thees benefits on the sub level as SNV has had its a difficult subject for many people to handle and we certainly have had are stumbling blocks here and there along with some vary crazy management strategies having been suggested my only hope is that we all can resolve some of are differences in terms of water usage and come up with better regional water solutions that would benefit every one on the Colorado water system
