The younger generation is less knowledgeable about what is termed a "slippery slope" Than more mature ones are. Many of us have seen how things go.... Once you let the govt. begin censoring anything it usually ends badly.

The question arises whether these demographics also depict people's opinions of censorship by private industry such as Universities and Internet Forums. Of course, the First Amendment does not prohibit censorship in private industry. That is not an issue. But, I find it hard to believe that many of the people who advocate freedom of speech by government would also advocate censorship in private industry, i.e., it seems too hypocritical.

I looked for censorship demographics in private industry an found this:

With contradictory evidence, "Regular users of those sites, especially those under the age of 40, strongly disagree with any attempts to close down free speech."

An obvious question to (apparently only) me is, "Would you support a federal law that limited censorship by private industry?" But, I can't find a poll of such a question anywhere. If you fall in the orange group of the aforementioned graphs, of course, you disapprove of such a law. There is no need to ask you. But, if you fall in the green group, would you? Personally, I think that such a law would be good for America because it would extend the First Amendment principles that made America better than other countries.

I am not a big fan of the govt. telling anyone what to do or not do beyond what is necessary to maintain peace and order, such as traffic laws, laws against murder, robbery and rape and things like those.
For instance, alcohol prohibition made common men criminals and made crime pay, and pay well... so they repealed it...The modern prohibition does the same only the govt found a way to profit from it way more than taxes ever could have done. This way they gain, not only money but power and control as well and a "legal" means to destroy anyone who gets in their way. It's sad, really, what some humans do to other humans for money and power.

How would the government make money by prohibiting censorship in private industry? Rather than the government fining censors, the people being censored could sue the censors, i.e., only the victims profit.

Paul Nehlen wants a $500,000 government fine per instance of wrongful censorship. I'm not sure I would support that. Maybe, $100 is reasonable.

In my example they make money, but in your example they gain power. It's the slippery slope principle... The more power to push people or corporations around, the more power they take.

My fellow 'nana heads' - I have had the pleasure of having great exchanges - sharing information and nanas with many members at this forum without knowing their politics.
I didn't join this forum to discuss politics. I do have political opinions But, There are sooo many other appropriate places to express your political views.
I fear that this forum is being sidetracked from the original purpose and starting down a slippery slope.. COULD WE AGREE TO KEEP POLITICAL VIEWS OFF OF THIS SITE???

Either way, you can be as perfectly clear as you want, your opinions don't matte to me. I was born in 1946 and I am a Boomer, a vietnam veteran and a patriot.
