Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
OUCH!
$65.00 for Big Jim. I can stomach that. $38.45 for shipping. I think I reached my pain level. I hope I can get some budwood or grafting stock.

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
I know, though I will say it was one of the single best trees/plants I have ever purchased.

I checked into it, and apparently they are different.

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
My one experience with Ty Ty was not good. Their plants are tiny, extremely expensive, and have poor survival. I also got chased back to my truck by their loose pit bull. Only buy from them as a last resort and be aware that what you buy could well not survive.
Buy from anyone else first. There is a I think an Aarons something or other that seems to be an offshoot from them. Since they are so similar I would also beware of them too. |

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
I am amazed that the TyTy/Aaron's people can remain in business. The internet is littered with tales of their poor service.
I ordered from them years ago and was less than happy. In the end the twigs they sent me did survive, but it was a lot longer before they were the blueberry bushes I had ordered. Anyway, back to loquats. Let me know if there are other places to list. Keith

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
They are supposed to be former disgruntled employees of TyTy at least one of whom did webpage work for them. There is supposed to be an internet and legal battle of between them now. On the ranking page for davesgarde there a lot of negative comments Could be ringers sent in by TyTy. I check for the source of the Perdue Pear that attracted my attention to Willis Orchard and saw

The scoop on 'Willis Orchard Company' Paradise Palm is an affiliate owned by Jason Willis. Their DG report is here. The scoop on 'Paradise Palm Co.' We could do a cumulative buy of $200.00 and that would help too! Should be a good trip. Let's do it.

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
This is what arrived from Willis: well packed, excellent root development, but I cannot find a grafting scar - think these are cuttings.

What varities are these supposed to be?
I have my trimmings from the grafting in water to see if they will root.

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
Early red, Vista white and golden nugget. The fourth tree was unlabeled and an extra. I may use it as a rootstock an try my hand at grafting just to see.

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
Keith that sounds good. When I (actually SBL came over and gave me a crash course in grafting) grafted the scion wood you sent me I took the trimmings off the seedlings and I am trying to root them. I should have plenty if they all take.
I haven't heard of any "superior" rootstock for Loquats so the rooted cuttings are probably better than a grafted one IMHO. Thanks again. PS Still loooking for BIG JIM scions if anyone has any.

Re: Sourcing loquat varieties
Does anyone have any updates on whether you got what you purchased from Willis Orchard? Were they seed grown, grafted, or cuttings?
