Sorry for the late reply, I simply disc the soil and pulled up several hills and planted seeds...Jack-O-Lantern brand pumpkin seeds.

Then once they got going I covered the entire area with mulch/wood chips that my local tree grinding serviced dumped on my propertu for FREE:}

Then side dressed them with 13-13-13 at approx 3 weeks old and I continue to water them like crazy.

My first serious attempt to grow Punkins...I'll keep everyone posted on my results...

Peace B with U

I sure hope you'll post pictures of the jack o lanterns you carve or the pie someone bakes. Should you wish to share a recipe for a superb quick bread or special pie I will surely notice. I've been quite remiss with gardening in my new nest thus far but hope to get back to growing food again. Gardening for one isn't as much fun as I anticipated but living alone for the first time in my life has been interesting.

Dang that combo must be some Canadian thing because I've never heard of it and I cook a lot or at least read a lot of recipes. Post your recipe or some information under other recipes. I love chicken and can tolerate pumpkin except in pie.

Regular soup. Chicken, potatoes, carrots, celery and punkins. Make a good broth with the chicken and add veggies. Thyme goes well with that recipe. So does turmeric, black pepper and loads of garlic. Onions too but you get gas with those! I used to work for italians in a bakery. We sold lots of this soup. Only difference is I don't add onions, go heavy on garlic and the turmeric is my thing. Add a b it of basmati in there. It helps thickening it and improves the texture. I actually prefer without the thyme. If you need tricks to make a good strong broth , let me know. And please, do not use the yellow nuclear artificial powder that everyone uses! Make a natural broth. It's easy!

Sorry I draw the line at pumpkin gumbo--especially with unripe fruits. Does look yummy. Fresh gator in there?

BTW, I was out at a little poorly rated watering hole (and I'm not going to up their stars because I don't want to encourage the riffraff) where I was chatting with a young man whose stepfather lives very close to where I did in MD. He'd ordered a crabcake so I asked if it was a crabcake or deviled crab. "Deviled crab--that's all you can get down here." I told him how I make crabcakes. "Oh, yeah, I've had those but you can't get them in FL." He was born and raised in Orlando but at least he's had the chance to taste "heaven".
