Does anyone grow kakui nuts and can give me some information on these plants? All i can seem to find on the net is related to the use of the nuts as a jewelery item nothing about the plants themselves. I remember hearing a little about them from my trip to hawaii from way back when i was little but i wasn't into plants at the time and i was only in about 3rd grade. so any information is greatly appreciated.

This person was asking a question about these nuts, not giving a vague description to entice anyone to ask about them. Now that it's removed from the unanswered post thread it may be forever buried and have the odds of being answered stacked even higher against it.
I understand replying to many of those threads , get em outa there. The ones that ask a question ,however, should remain there until someone can post a valid response.

I can tell you what they are used for, they are used in jewelery as they are nice round sized nuts that look quite nice when coated in a laquer, another use or so i was told when we visited Hawaii was that it is a natural laxative, on a nature show i saw them used as a torch due to their high oil content. Other than that i don't know. I think i've also read they are called candle nuts.

A quick boo around my favourite plant databases turns up Aleurites moluccanus, aka Candlenut and Kukui. Check the Wikipedia entry for it - there's some stuff on propagation, and also how to roast and eat the nuts.

My apologies Scot...... your posting in this thread brought it to the forefront.
I can tell you nothing about the tree but I've sold many pieces of jewelry made with these nuts. They were very popular two years ago. The nuts are often mistaken for heart shaped beads.

The double coconut, or coco-de-mer. The largest seed in the world, from the species Lodoicea maldivica, a palm endemic to the Seychelles.

I won't say what that picture reminds me of though, lol! It definitely is visually stimulating.
