Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Thanks!
I still have a lot of time to think about it, but not sure yet. Tomatoes seem rather easy and are very tasty. Nice pup! Looks really healthy! |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Tomatoes will almost never disappoint, so feel free to give them a try in the garden, as well as in pots. ;)
You can get the best varieties when you grow them from seed, as opposed to buying run-of-the-mill nursery types. : ) |

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Wow Sherry, those flowers are a perfect fall combination
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I agree! Those Jerusalem Cherry are inedible right? If so too bad because they sure look like you could eat them!
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I think they are poisonous. Mine grew slow this year. I cut the tops off to make them bushy. I'll post pictures of them but you may laugh at me lol

I forgot to ask you but do you have fruit trees as well? Im getting a tangerine tree in a couple days.

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Wow Sherry your plants look very happy and healthy as usual
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Well, thank you Cam. ;)
Oh yes, I've grown many fruit trees. One time I grew a dwarf pomegranate tree in my south living room window and it was ladened with fruits all winter long! I germinate many lemon and lime seeds. Grown passionflower vines galore and soon I'm getting a little orange tree. I grow Goji berry and Fig as well. :D Here are some Antonhi peppers that will ripen to a creamy white color shortly.... ![]() A couple of my Alpines today... ![]() Love my daisies... ![]() This is my Calandiva... ![]() : ) |

My Jerusalem Cherry plant is so cheerful this Autumn. Check it out today...
![]() I have lots of seeds, if anyone's interested. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
sorry but is that a cherry plant or is that a cherry tomato plant? Nice pics!
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Although this plant is from the deadly nightshade family, unlike tomatoes and eggplant, it is completey inedible...and in fact poisonous!!!
It's strictly for ornamental use only. It's sometimes referred to as "Christmas Cherry". The seeds germinate really easy and the plant is great for indoors, in non-sunny locations. It loves to be misted. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
great! something I could grow!
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I can surely share some of the seeds. ;)
: ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
hmm don't tempt me lol
I do have a couple small pots with soil.... and not much else. |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
but just a question about the strawberries. Do they start to lift and grow upwards or do they mostly tend to grow outward? Do the stems grow first and then the leafs on them or do the stems with leafs on them grow together and grow more leafs from the same stem? sorry i'm so new to this.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
The strawberry leaves grow upright, and after you have an abundance of them you will then see straw-like stems growing up from the crown of the plant and off other leaf branches, with buds on the end of them. These will be the blossoms where the berries will grow from when the flowers die and the petals drop.
No insect pollination is needed to get a crop of berries, as the plants are self-pollinating. Don't worry if the first few blossoms drop, with no berries. Once the plant gets going and takes off, the blossoms will pollinate each others and lots of fruits will develop. No hand-pollinating is necessary. They're easy to grow. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
that's good to know. As I repotted the strawberries i think they will take one more day to adjust, but they are still looking healthy.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I'm excited for you, Tommyg. Good luck with your strawberries. ;)
I love geraniums for indoor houseplants. They bloom continuously, year round, and they're easy to take care of. These ones are the same ones I had blooming in my bathroom window nearly a year ago, going into another bloom today... ![]() ![]() I feed them an organic blooming/fruiting formula (DNF) and I allow the soil to dry in between waterings... ![]() I also have some hot peppers growing in my kitchen window right now... ![]() Sweet & hot peppers are extremely east to grow indoors. ;) : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I may try to specialize in fruits and learn as much as I can about growing them.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Are you looking to grow them in the garden or in pots? Indoors or out?
: ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I would like to grow them outside.when not possible then in pots so they can ve moved indoors when needed.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Fruit trees of many varieties are easy and fun to maintain in pots. Are you looking to grow them from seed or buy an already existing fruit tree from the nursery.
Dwarf Pomegranate "Nana" makes a fine potted fruit tree specimen. I like many of the citrus trees in containers. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
probably small plants would work best for me. but for outdoors maybe from seed is better for watermelon or something like that.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
A dwarf pomegranate tree would only get about a foot and a half to two feet tall in a pot, so you might be interested in something like that, to start with.
Do some research and decide on something that's right for you before you get it. Maybe you'd like to grow a fruiting vine, like passion flower. They're fun and some are excellent for pots and a trellis. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
That is a good idea.
Hmm |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I like your pics. Any of your plants growing outdoors right now? It gets pretyt cold here.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Nope, it's too cold here now for outdoor gardening. Some geraniums, mums and dusty miller plants are still kicking around though but everything else is done.
Here's my Coffee plant... ![]() Hope it grows some red 'cherries'. Coffee plants make for very attractive houseplants and can thrive for many years indoors...even produce coffee! I don't even drink coffee but I just like the plant. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Great looking plant! Do you have a sunroom or greenhouse type room or are these plants all in a kitchen area?
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I live in a large apartment with an unusual amount of windows...facing east and south. In my living room, I have two huge south windows and a large east window as well. Plus all the sills are as big as shelves! This apartment is truly a plant lover's dream. :D
Not to mention I have a four foot long fluorescnt lighting set-up, as well as a 400 W metal halide system, and four Aero-gardens too! :goteam: : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Wow! That's a lot to work with.
You must really be enjoying it. I cut off some of my scallions last week (yes it is still somewhat small at 6 inches in height), but they said it is still good to eat (the green part) and putting it in my soup. Hope it tastes good. |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I've lived here for 12 years and yes the windows will be missed when I move, which will be shortly. I want access to outdoor gardening or maybe a huge balcony. I was the gardener here for a few years and got lots of experience though so it was a good thing.
I love scallions and bet they'll be delicious in your soup. I'm jealous that I don't have some to harvest! :ha: : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Scallions taste good. Also its interesting but once they get cooked they flatten out.
I'm still waiting for them to continue growing to about 9 inches or so. |
