My Quicksilver geranium going into full bloom...
![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
You're drowning in a sea of peppers! :ha:
That QuickSilver sure is a beauty! And I love all the leaves coloring! Did I see you post a picture of your Red Head Lettuce in a thread, or was that your coleus? ~J |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
No, that's Coleus. I grew the red lettuce for Henry and just kept harvesting the new tiny baby leaves for him to eat, until it got too hot and the plants bolted.
Yes, Quicksilver is one of my favorite geraniums and this plant is doing exceptionally well. There's a lot more buds on it than you can see in the picture. I love the soft shade of pink. Yup, peppers are everywhere here! :ha: I pick and eat then daily. They're all hot and delicious so how can I resist. Yummy. I'm already planning a dinner for today, and of course including them in the recipe. Soon time to water a few plants... : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
New little polka dot plants popping up...
![]() Loving the deep, rich colors of this Coleus... ![]() It's definitely one of the nicest I've grown... ![]() : ) |

How adorable are these baby mini bell peppers today...
![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
They look like adorable little green baby butts! So cute!!! :ha:
What is the Jolly Green Giants' little friend's name? Is it Sprout? Little baby Sprout's butts! :ha: Take some toothpicks and attach the Johnny Nardello's on there for legs, a yellow squash up side down for the torso. Let's see a petunia blossom for a tu tu skirt. A Little Blue pepper for the head. Some burrito succulent for the hair on the head. I need some help for the arms (maybe some curly noodles). Anyway, I can just about picture this in my head. :ha: Can you? |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
You are too funny, JaNan. Tell me something...have they confirmed your reservation at the nuthouse yet?! :ha:
Oh I'm still laughing at this post. You called them 'Johnny Nardello', but it's 'Jimmy Nardello'! :ha: I just can't wait to see what color they'll ripen to when they're done growing. I never have good luck with mixes or get the color I want but I was hoping they'd turn out chocolate colored because they're not so common. I'll enjoy them no matter what but it would be nice to get some cool ones that you don't see too often. Fingers crossed. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
:ha::ha::ha:
Oh didn't I tell you I escaped from there YEARS ago! :ha::ha::ha::ha: That's what I'm here for, (OK now picture Natalie Wood as Gypsy Rose Lee singing "Let Me Entertain You!") :ha::ha::ha::ha: |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Only you would be picturing these things. I just thought they were cute, but you took it to a whole other level!!! :ha:
: ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I have a very vivid imagination. Greg just came in and asked me what I was laughing at so I read him our last couple of posts. Of course he got to see the "LIVE" version and by the time I was singing "Let Me Entertain You" he was laughing too. I told him only he got to "see" it though. :ha::ha::ha::ha:
I have been drinking peach iced tea all afternoon so I am all wired up! Figures since everyone else is tired. |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Now you've got me wanting to make one, just so I can see it. :ha: It would be cute though.
: ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Well. except for the hair, you could make a salad out of if after you took pictures of it for me to see! Let's see, what edible would make good hair. How about a little Angel Hair pasta? Then you could make some wings with lettuce or chard and have yourself an edible ANGEL!!!!! YEAH!
Oh, if it has turned into an angel don't forget the halo! A little tiny onion ring! WooHoo!:woohoonaner: |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Ok, enough silliness. :ha:
Check out Blake's "chilly" chili plant today... ![]() Actually, it's about 7 plants in one small pot but they are short and dwarf-like so it looks like one plant. The peppers are killer hot. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I was told banana pups don't even have to have roots to cut them from the mother and that they can still survive. This will be a experiment...
![]() It's a Super Dwarf Cavendish. Let's see what happens... : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I love daisies...

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Here's my variegated geranium this evening...
![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
That looks like you could EAT it!!! Wow that is pretty. And you had no idea it was going to look like that? Is this something you bred, Sherry?
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
The seed came from a mix but it didn't mention anything about there being any variegated types! I was so shocked and amazed when the buds started to open. Some of the petals have stripes, while others are speckled. I've never had one like this before. How totally cool!
I can save lots of seeds and share them, so I'll be sure you get some too, JaNan! :D : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Ok here they are going into full bloom beside my 'fish' pepper plant...

Celosia today...

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
My Coral Bells perennial called "Berry Smoothie"...
![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Very pretty and cheerful! How is your little Super Dwarf Cavendish without roots doing pictured below? Did it make it and grow roots? I have a Truly Tiny rooting in the AG. It's growing a little, but slowly. They grow slow anyway.
~J |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
It was rooting Janan, but it died while I was away! :(
Yes, the color of 'berry smoothie' is so bright and cheerful looking. It's an easy-to-grow plant and there are other colors too. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
This is my lovely lemon/lime colored "June" perennial Hosta...
![]() It's growing great indoors. : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
My Venus Flytrap plant is growing like crazy here at the cottage...
![]() I bought a 'Skeeter's Broom' Dwarf Japanese Red Maple tree that's growing lots of new leaves ... ![]() OMG I love it... ![]() More soon... : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Your Japanese maple is gorgeous Sherry. I have one but every summer it defoliates due to the heat.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Thanks, Cam. I'm really enjoying it and will be taking it home with me when we leave here...if we leave here! :ha:
Here too, is my variegated and very colorful Croton plant, which allows you to enjoy the splendor of Autumn hued foliage all year round... ![]() My dwarf mini sunflower plant with two new flowers about to open... ![]() This is a deciduous dwarf purple-leaf Concorde Barberry which has beautiful maroon foliage that becomes even more intense during Fall. It will have small yellow flowers followed by red berries... ![]() The leaves are so pretty... ![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I love Crotons. I have 2 of them that I've had for 3 years. Usually I kill them, but the 2 I have now have been very tolerant. My mom's friend had one that bloomed for her indoors. It was a weird flower. I love barberries but do they have thorns on them?
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
The one I have isn't thorny, thankfully. ;) I really dig the purple leaves though. :08:
I think Croton plants are beautiful and the one I have reminds me of Autumn. Here's a nice Rudbeckia plant I also have at the cottage... ![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
My friend has some mini barberry plants and they have sharpest thorns, but the foliage is beautiful. I love croton plants too. Do Rudbeckias have a scent?
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Nope I don't think they do have a scent.
I better go check more closely for these thorns you're talking about... : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Rudbeckias definitely remind me of fall. I think there are thornless varieties of barberry
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I used to have a couple of large barberry. Mine were thorny too. They do have pretty leaves and cute flowers, but I hated the thorns. I have some decent crown of thorns too, but again I hate the thorns. I guess the only ones I really like are roses that are thorny.
Beautiful Croton! I don't have much luck with them either Cam! :( That dwarf sunflower is cute. How big does it get? That dwarf red Japanese Maple is gorgeous! I love it! How are all those doing (the ones you grew from seed)? I have tried a couple of those too and they just don't like our heat. ~JaNan |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I'm surprised I've had my crotons for 3 years. They lose some leaves during winter but all of them regrow in spring when I put them outside
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Hi everyone. Here from Massachusetts.
I'm thinking now that I probably should of gotten the musa basjoo instead of the super dwarf cavendish as it gets very cold here in MA. But, in any case, i'm going to take care of my plants and allow them to grow. How is your banana plant doing now Holly Berry? |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Upon closer inspection, I see that the barberry bush does have thorns...very sharp ones! :ha: Guess I'll have to be careful.
The dwarf sunflower plant is about a foot tall, Janan. It bears many flowers at once. Here's a bloom as of yesterday... ![]() Here are the mums now blooming at the cottage... ![]() ![]() ![]() Banana plants are doing well and thanks for asking. Here's a super dwarf cavendish pup that I took a pic of a couple days ago... ![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Great!!
I have a SDC as well and watching it grow daily. Just over 12 inches now. So its really nice to see how others are growing. T |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Feel free to show shots of your sdc plant...just not in this thread! :ha:
Oh and Janan, I forgot to mention the homegrown Japanese Maple trees I grew before... I was worried they needed to go outside but of course I couldn't put them out at my place because they'd be gone within the hour! :ha: I stupidly brought them to my girlfriend's place, thinking that if I reminded her, she'd water them when they needed it... Yeah right! :ha: To make a long story short...they're all dead! It there's one thing Jen is good at, it's killing plants with total and utter success! :08: Not to worry, I'll grow some more again soon. They were so beautiful, weren't they? Loving my indoor Hosta plant these days... ![]() : ) |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Will do. I"ll probably just put it in my other post.
|
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Yes, and please feel most welcome to post in the Insomnia Thread too. We all love to chat and see new pics.
Here are some of our flower bouquets inside the cottage... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() : ) |

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Very nice. I want to attempt a small garden next season, what would you suggest fruit or vegetable wise?
Tommyg |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
Tomatoes Squash Peppers...
I would start by preparing the bed now with organics (compost and worm poo), and work in by double digging and place a heavy tarp on it over the winter months. Start small... 8x8! |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
I do get squirrels and a rabbit from time to time.
Tomatoes sound fun. But i might try a dwarf citrus tree or maybe dwarf apple tree. Hmm |
Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
If you're a beginner Tommyg, I'd start with something easy so that you'll be successful and reap the rewards of your efforts. Nothing wrong with growing whatever you are drawn to though also, and learning through trial & error.
When I first started gardening I grew lots of tomatoes, strawberries, hot & sweet peppers, and swiss chard. Easy as pie, if you can provide some good sunlight (south site preferred), consistent nutrients (organic, of course ;)), and lots of water (sometimes daily when it's extra hot). Good quality and well draining soil is everything, and working in some amendments is good idea. I enjoy cow and sheep manure, as well as blood & bonemeal...and I also add a bag of peat moss which will break down clay as an extra bonus. Peat moss will hold moisture longer as well. :D Keeping an eye on your gardens and watching for problems, is also a good idea. If bugs are an issue, there are lots of home remedies that work very well. I use many spices to deter bugs, that really work...such as hot chili peppers, bay, whole cloves, and garlic. :) Good Luck! :waving: Here's some more of my mums here at the cottage... ![]() ![]() ![]() Just LOVE these purple ones... ![]() Coneflowers just coming into bloom also... ![]() More soon... : ) |
