Hazelnuts (Filberts)
 

Does anyone know when they are ready? My trees were loaded this year, but the squirrels went to work on them, when the outer skin was still green. I picked a bunch of them at that time, just to keep the squirrels from getting ALL of them. But, I didn't know if they were ripe. (The squirrels get all the nuts, the slugs get the strawberries, the birds get the cherries, etc.)

My chickens got my whole garden and the grapes. And the ducks have found the dried corn. they are jumping up& down trying to knock the ears off the stalks.

Oh well I have to plant collards soon to feed the chickens & duck during the winter.
