Default Gold Nugget Mandarin

One of my favorite fruits to come out of Howard Frost's breeding program is the Gold Nugget Mandarin. It is genetically seedless and does not produce seeds in the presence of other pollens as some "seedless" varieties do. The fruit is outstanding quality. It typically begins ripening in April-May in southern California. At the moment I'm picking about a gallon of fruits per day which will continue for a couple of weeks.

That's a good amount of fruit Richard. Do you have them planted in the ground?

Yes, just one tree. It's been in the ground 7 years now.

Neat, I had assumed it was more than one. Do you have any experience with Satsumas? I'm sure you can grow a lot better varieties where you are, but this is one variety recommend by the Ag extension agency (or whatever it's called) for my area.

Satsuma is a very old cultivar. Ranks about 7th in double-blind taste tests for flavor. I would recommend either "Tango" or "Gold Nugget".
