Considering the following 3 purchases

But probably only 2 or maybe nothing.

I ate one of the FL "cherries" and it tasted like cough syrup to me. Does anyone know if that was Surinam or Barbadoes? I could buy both but why grow something I hate?

I did a search here but found nothing about Babadine. Should I spend the money on this or pass it by?

Kubali, another member on the forum a little northwest of you grows Barbados cherries ......

And loves them.

What was the pit/seeds like? Barbados Cherry has three seeds that take up the center. I googled the Suriname cherry and it looks like it has a pit type seed.

The Suriname cherry has many grooves from top to bottom like a pumpkin or acorn squash, the Barbados looks a bit more like a regular cherry but has only three mild grooves like it has three lobes.

Perhaps you could try the Acerola Cherry.

Have you looked into Bing cherries? They are the dark red ones you can buy at the grocery store.

"Real" cherries need more chill hours than are available where I live. I do have 6 sand cherry plants that have survived in pots for 2 years and will be set out this week. Yes, I'm hoping they'll produce but doubt they will. Here in FL prunus does not tend to fruit. Tradeoff? Musas and citrus are essentially carefree.

The only "Cherry" that I found that is remotely close to a northern cherry is Grumichama. Acerola is Waaayyy too tart for me, think chewing a Vitamin C tablet... many of these tablets come from acerola. I had one for years, and pulled it out.
