Said "Welcome to Bananas" 0 Times | Misi Luki advice Hi, This banana was growing great and then I noticed that the outer leaves stems unwrapped off of the pseudostem down to the base. The next new leaf in the middle looks like it is burnt and is not making much progress. New pups seem to be growing fast and are catching up to the main plant in size. Before this it was growing normally. I did fertilize with a banana fertilizer I bought on Ebay. It was only a tsp per gallon and the other banana plants I have do not exhibit any problems. They all are in the same potting mix to. The stems also have some black spots on them Is it fertilizer burn? Should I check the PH, is that important for bananas? Thanks Tom |

That black powder I see on the inside of the leaf stems -- is it dirt or mold? Please insure that the plant is growing in full sun and that you are not overwatering. Put some mulch (1-2 inches) in the top of the pot to keep the soil surface from drying out and then check the holes in the bottom of the pot before deciding to add more water. The fertilizer dosage seems just fine.

Said "Welcome to Bananas" 0 Times | Re: Misi Luki advice In the beginning the Misi Luki and my Ice Cream had the best growth and looked fine. The Raja Puri initially had problems because it was not growing and I was having to peel back the outer layers. Now the Raja Puri is growing great an is 43 inches to the tip of the next leaf and the Ice Cream is 53 inches to the top of the next protruding leaf and the base is 4in in diameter. The Misi Luki will soon have pups just as tall as the mother bulb at this rate. Those pictures are already a couple of weeks old. The black stuff is not on the surface of the plant. It does not rub off but seems to be in the plants itself. Thank you Tom Last edited by tmc2009 : 08-10-2009 at 04:57 PM. |

Said "Welcome to Bananas" 422 Times | Re: Misi Luki advice We had a spat of questions in spring / early summer about leaves splitting off the p-stem. My siam ruby is doing a little bit of that now. It seems to happen when the temps are up, nutrition is good, and the banana starts growing very quickly. (Width wise anyway.) No worries about that. I can't really tell about the brown spots.

Said "Welcome to Bananas" 191 Times | Re: Misi Luki advice Don't worry about the leaves falling away from the pseudostem. It seems to be a common occurance-mine do it all the time. I think it has to do with growth, as KJ mentioned. |

Said "Welcome to Bananas" 0 Times | Re: Misi Luki advice Well, I just don't get it. The Misi Luki is just stopped growing. The main part that is. The pups seem to be growing and will soon overtake the main plant. The next center leaf just stopped and most of the part that stuck out is brown and dried. I wonder if I should unpot it and take a look at the corm. Would this be a bad time to do that? What are the indications of a corm rotting? |

Said "Welcome to Bananas" 69 Times | Re: Misi Luki advice On the corm rotting, you'll see parts that are black & soft - same with roots. My IC is doing that now (leaves peeling away). The stem is thinner from it but it has few pups that are growing great. I don't know what this could be either.
