Default Ice Cream Plant - 1st Year Pups -- NC -- HELP

Not sure if I'm doing something incorrectly as I wasn't expecting to see so much brown on the pups as the developed. Gonna try to attach a photo to one of my websites so it will show here.... if not, I did upload one to my Profile page (at least I think I did -- learning curve to the board).

Thanks for any direction on growing in NC.

Patsy

It either needs fertilizer or less water.. definitely needs much and compost, appears to be planted in just sand. Thats all I can guess from the photo. Judging by the grass in the background Im thinking its a nutrient issue, and you continue to water hoping it will help. I could be way off! Just my .02

Thanks for your reply and suggestion.... it's been dry here so I've probably over watered to compensate (added liquid fertilizer couple days ago). Will slow down on the watering and add mulch tomorrow. Don't have compost so that's out. I know it look like it planted in sand but it's "farm dirt" so hopefully that's good.

Again, thanks for the suggestion.

So the brown spots could be fertilizer burn.. not sure. Plants that size dont need much fertilizer, and maybe something like fish emulsion would be a gentler choice until they grow a bit. Bananas like light soils with lots of organic matter. Mine are growing in an area heavily amended with mushroom compost, manure and wood chips. They will grow in good old FL sand, but dont like it as all the nutrients leech out really quickly. Not sure what you farm dirt is like, but if you think its heavy maybe mix in some manure or pete moss etc.. just something to keep it from packing. Good luck!

Kinda looks like some of my plants after unwrapping at the conclusion of winter. Could be cool temps at night? Central NC can have cool spring weather and some parts of NC have mountains. When night temps get over 60F should get better results.
