How long??

I planted my musa over a month ago - and no new leaves or pups... it has struggled with sunburns and I finally figured out a watering system that makes it happy... but should I be concerned that there is NO new growth?? It only has 2 leaves left that are pretty crispy - I am considering cutting them off - but wonder when to expect some new growth? It is pretty pathetic looking and is right in front of my house...

The first thing I would do is give it some protection from direct sun.

I'm currious why you think your new watering system makes it happy. Have you checked the root system or something?

As previously stated by Tony if the leaves are burning then it probably needs time to adjust to full sun. A gradual introduction to full sun while a plant is still potted seems to work well. Start in filtered ight under a tree or shade cloth and gradually move out to full sun in the planting spot of your choice.

On the bright side, even a plant that's totally burnt from over exposure will rebound given time. Just don't over water it because it can't transpire the water with no leaves.

Well, first off, don't cut the leaves off. As a general rule, I always leaves on there till they turn completely brown and dried up, then cut them off. Like others have said, adapting your plant to the sun gradually while still potted is the best way to go. Sounds like yours might be in ground, but that's a good idea for future reference to prevent/minimize sunburn. Beyond that, just make sure you are not over watering it. A lot of people tend to water their bananas too much when they don't need it. Wait till the soil gets dry before watering (and not just the surface, but below the surface as well). Once the plant gets bigger, this will be less of an issue. I guess just be patient and wait it out. Sometimes plants get shocked by being transplanted and take a little while to grow some new roots and get situated.

When I first got my bananas it took 1-2 months for new growth. With the last two repottings it took 1-2 weeks.

I just try to minimize the trauma to my naners when I repot them. I repotted two less than a week ago and they're already sending out new leaves. Basically, just leave the roots alone....push the pot on the sides a bit, pull it all out in one piece, place it in a hole and surround it with soil.....push down around it slightly and you're done. Less stess=quicker recovery!

This one lost a lot of roots (but kept a lot as well) and was putting out a new leaf in less than a week
