DIY Plant Sunblock Recipe

Does anyone happen to know of a fairly easy to make recipe for leaf sunblock? Tried hardening off my plants for a couple of hours recently, and they sustained some pretty bad scorching even though temps weren’t that high.

A picture of the plants would help. Radiant heat is the problem, so block direct sunlight with a shade cloth or move the plants to a location with afternoon shading.

That isn't a sunburn problem. The plant is inside.

Tell us more about the plant.

How long have you had the plant?
What was used for the potting soil?
How much fertilizer was applied and what type (NPK)?

How fast does water drain from the bottom of the pot when first poured onto the top? It needs to be about 10 to 20 sec.

The pot is sitting on a nice wooden floor so I don't think the pot actually drains.

So firstly, they’re indoors at the moment since it’s quite windy out, and not as warm as last week.

I can safely say that is most likely sunburn, as they were out during the day under full sun for 3-4 days last week. They used to live under a grow light since I purchased them about 10 months ago.

They actually live in a black outdoor pot that sits in a ceramic indoor pot, which you can see the rim of. There’s about 3” of clearance for any water to drain out into the white pot.

I won’t go into soil, fert., etc as they were doing perfectly well until I put them outside as I mentioned.

Yeeeees, it was stupid of me to throw them straight into full sun.

Noooo, I won’t do it again. But equally a sunblock would be helpful in this situation.

The sunburn I've seen is dark green like cooked greens, watery & wilted. Then in a few days the burns turn black and dry out. ... Your burns appear grayish white and does not look to be wilted.

To acclimate small banana plants to the sun is normally done over 2 or 3 months. This allows the plant to develop size, height and thicker leaves.
