I know when I harvested mine last year, I could expect to get at least 100 or so seeds per... Now, I harvested and shipped out well over 6000 seeds last year, so you do the math. I will not be doing quite that many this year even if I wanted to. I actually had access to an ultra sonic bath last fall, and it did really well with lab sand added in the mix. I don't know if I will have access to it again this year... |
Re: OK>>>> Seeds are ready on the velutina!!!
Randy, my velutina bananas are starting to split open now (the same bananas as in my avatar). They are very fat and plump. I'll have to monitor them and get a pic!

Re: OK>>>> Seeds are ready on the velutina!!!
How long does it take for this variety to bloom from seed?

Re: OK>>>> Seeds are ready on the velutina!!!
I got mine to bloom in 7 to 8 months from seed.

Normally, it takes two years to get them from seed to fruiting. I didn't realize you got the to fruit for you the first year from seed, Austin. That is amazing. I know most grown from seed only produce nice foliage and the second year is when they usually produce fruit... |

The first pic is dated 1/0/08, and the plant looks quite a bit larger than 2 months old. Are you sure the plant in the first pic didn't sprout at least six months earlier? Whatever the case, your second pic is a very nice looking plant. Thanks again for the info... |
Re: OK>>>> Seeds are ready on the velutina!!!
Thanks, Randy, you may be right. I guess that's what happens when you don't write things down! Sorry for the misinformation, guys. I really thought it sprouted in the winter. :)
