Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Default Musa coccinea seeds, does this look right?

They seem really shriveled. I dunno if they are suppose to look like this. Also any suggestion for this species that may different from general instructions?

I don't remember seeing that type before. Where did you get them at? If you don't mind.

Dar, I bought some last year from Georgiavines off eBay, and they look just like the ones I received. I bought 8 different kinds and they were the only ones that looked like "Bird Droppings" (too FUNNY Dean! )

No, they didn't. They are still outside, still in the rooting media. I would like to see something come up from them, but out of 8 kinds I had ZERO sprout. Some folks say they have had banana seeds sprout up to two years later, so I still have another year!

Hi,
The seeds are M.coccinea seeds as indicated in my photo too. They are extremely slow to germinate. I have germinated many of them several years ago but normally they are so dry, that floating in the water, but are still viable. Germinating normally takes several months.
In the photo Musa suratii is revised Musa lawitiensis var. suratii several years ago.
Markku.
