Sometimes they float because they are rotted inside and have a large cavity of air, but sometimes they float just because there are small pockets of air caught inside and are very dry. Although this is definitely a sign that they are not fresh, it is still possible that they will germinate. Let them soak for a couple days and then plant them.

I had originally thought all floaters would not be viable as well. Tog had mentioned that Musa violascens seed all float and that it was probably because of their streamside habitat so it might just be natural adptation for some species. Nothing to lose by trying. Good luck with them.

Musa violascens also has a huge endosperm chamber relative to the whole seed so there is lots of room for air unlike some other species.

Those seeds should sink normally, but even still, floating does not necessarily mean they are not viable.

The Higas all floated initially, then sank after 2 days of soaking. They should be fine.

Hey J, as far as I am concerned, E glaucum and Flame Thrower, Chambeyronia macrocarpa seeds are sinkers unless they are bad. I don't know anything about caster beans.

Hi Michael, most M balbisiana sds sink... soak a couple more days and see what happens. These are normally very vigorous sprouters. Recently I got 27/30. First sprout started at 12 days, and by another 10 days, the rest were smiling at me. Now I am over loaded with them as I did not expect so many to come up!

I just got what is suppose to be perrieri seeds...25 in all and 23 are floating.
I have decided after I got them today and the extreme postage I paid for them to go up the road 200 miles, I'm never ordering from this vendor again.
$6.00 for first class mail and 25 seeds...sheesh

Could you post a photo of the seeds, quite often Perrieri seeds are mislabelled?
Perrieri seeds should be slightly flat and covered in nobbles.

see this thread for confirmation

Ebay sellers name is "theplantattraction" but beware I reluctantly bought seeds from her this year.

She sold me expensive seed last year that was full of bugs and completely unviable.

I asked her to send me a pic of these seeds before I thought about buying them and she refused... so I only bought 1/2 of what I wanted.

Not to mention the postage was horrific...sent them to me first class mail in 1/2 a bubble envy, which is fine. How much room do 25 seeds need? There not huge or anything, but she only lives a couple hundred miles from me and the postage was $6.00 for 25 seeds sent first class mail?

I sell on Ebay so I am aware of the cost involved in shipping but I thought it was way overblown!

Last but not least, I don't like all my seeds floating, it may or may not mean anything that they are floating but they have been soaking now almost 24 hours and show no signs of sinking and there all upside down to boot.

So there you have it, theplantattraction on Ebay
