Check out Willis Orchard in Georgia: https://www.willisorchards.com/produ...t?category=275
I bought some palm trees from them last fall and will be purchasing a few of their bananas in the spring when the weather warms up. |

The Raja Puri I got from them clearly isn't. It's probably a Namwah.

I had a lengthy discussion with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency about bringing in banana plants as "houseplants" and this is their reply for BC:
"There shouldn't be any trouble at the border, because the border agents would be using AIRS as their reference and all the requirements are in there. If you check HS code "060290-002299 Other - houseplants (houseplants, for personal use and not for resale, excluding chrysanthemum).", "Travellers and personal use...", from Washington, you'll see that it says the plants are approved. I suppose you could always print this e-mail string to bring along with you just in case, but I really don't think there should be any trouble" I just checked AIRS and it is also valid for Ontario. You can not have them shipped directly to Canada - that would require a phyto certificate - but if you can find a US address to have them shipped to, you can them drive down, pick them up and bring them back as houseplants without any paperwork required; they must accompany you at the time of border crossing. I had mine shipped to a Shipping company in Washington state where I then picked them up. If you follow AIRS you can find several US states that you can bring in "houseplants" from (any fruit trees are off limits as is ANYTHING from California due to SOD - sudden oak death) Happy Hunting! ![]() |

I second on GoingBananas and advise people not to get from Willis Orchards. They're expensive especially for the fact that they often sell one variety under another's name.

Unfortunately I have not found anyone willing to ship directly to Canada due to the high cost of shipping and the requirement of having a phytosanitary certificate - which some US nurseries will provide at a cost of up to $250 per shipment. This is fine if you are ordering thousands of dollars worth of plants but ridiculous if you are buying only a couple at $10 to $20 each.
This is also why we can not get the selection here; no one is willing to pay a nursery $100+ for a plant that you could buy for less than $20 at a US nursery. And if you do purchase in the US you might not even be able to get into the country - depending upon which provincial/US border you cross and how good a day the border patrol is having ![]() |
