Default Wintering Musa Basjoo by only covering with topsoil?

Hi just wondering if my Musa Basjoo will survive in Maryland zone 7 as the temps are now 30 outside the past week. The leaves all died so I just cut it back to the ground and covered it with topsoil. Will my banana survive the winter? Last year I brought it into the garage but this year I just wanted to keep it simple as possible. Opinions?

It will work.

Topsoil /mulch do the same thing as an insulator. for plants and bulbs.
Bagged mulch might be more pleasing to look at.
You should have no issues in zone 7.

Go ahead and pile it on

Default Re: Wintering Musa Basjoo by only covering with topsoil?

Zone 6-7 Options
Option 1) don't do anything and the main stems will die but it will probably come back with what looks like pups around old corm

Option 2) cut back pseudostem 'angled 45 degrees' around 6"-1' tall and cover with a big pile of mulch. It will come back from main stems and or new pups

Option 3) cut back 2-4' and enclose with 2' tall chicken wire. Fill with mulch or dry leaves in bottom then fill in top with dry hay. Then cover. I used a 'duck cover fountain cover 68"' on amazon. Some people say they will grow just as big without doing this but I don't know. This is what I do though.
