Well, I know now that Musa zebrina will store this winter at least as a dry corm. I thought this one died 5 months ago in my greenhouse, and sat the pot off to the side. Today I dumped it out to reclaim the pot, and it is totally alive and solid with 2 eyes. It gets 120+ degrees in there and it had no water the whole time at all, what a survivor!

I'll try to do the same with the 7 nanners I just bought. I have no idea what they are but at the price I got them, I'm willing to give it a try...

I have bare root stored Orinoco and Ensete, but I have read Zebrina usually does not make it. I am going to try wrapping the root ball in plastic with holes punched in it to see if that stops the decline, instead of just leaving it exposed, but it might be they die because of the cool temperatures in crawlspaces. Now that I know they can be dormant at a high temperature, this might be an option, just with the corms stored bare at room temperature in a box in the closet, etc. If they can take 120F, they can take being in a warm closet all winter.

It shows just how resilient bananas are. We all usually screw with them way to much. Nature usually takes care of itself.

I think a lot of people probably have banana plants die, and if they would just keep them around they would re-sprout lol
