Default What Kind of Banana Is This?




This one stands about 4 and a half feet tall. Its pushing out a bloom now even though it froze all the way to the ground this past winter.

What kind of banana is this?

Looks like one of the ornatas. Possibly 'Standard Lavender' or 'Lavender Beauty', though I really shouldn't be using quotes as they are not true cultivars. Nice plant!

The true identity of Musa ornata is kinda lost among all of the hybrids and unknown things out there in the trade, but for all practical reasons the plant you have is Musa ornata.
