Most use soapy water to kill spider mites and other insects on their banana trees.

My father-in-law claims they emptied the washing machine into the banana plants in the 70's. His bananas and daughter turned out just fine!

Yes you can.
I used to live in the high dessert and water was very expensive so I saved my dish, washing machine and shower water and used them in my plants with no undesirable effect.

Soapy water the leaves can prevent a variety of pest on plants.
Some detergents contain phosphates which plants can use but the EPA is trying to phase them out.
