Urea or NPK? Which fertilizer should i apply to bananas?
I have a banana farm and applied about 25kilos of cow dunk (cow manure) on each plan. I after 1 month i cant see effect. I believe if has to decompose first. I cannot wait for that because the growth of the plants are very slow.
I want to apply artificial manure. I have 2 types available around my local market. 1. Urea (White Salt-like small balls) 2. NPK 15:15:15 (Round Brown balls) During my research on the internet, i found out that Urea is 46:0:0 NPK. I am guesing that the NPK 15:15:15 can do the work of Urea. Now the question is, should i use Urea? or NPK? or both until the cow manure decomposes? Thanks Last edited by arbadie : 02-07-2018 at 08:47 AM. |

Re: Urea or NPK? Which fertilizer should i apply to bananas?
Use the 15:15:15, you want a balance of nutrients, not just nitrogen. The balanced fertilizer will supply nitrogen in addition to phosphorus and potassium, both of which are also very important.
However, if you are trying to speed up growth, fertilizer might not be the issue. Are the plants getting enough water? If they are not getting enough water, they will grow slowly, but fertilizer will not speed them up.

He is just guessing NPK ratio. There are dozens of combinations.
Be careful with Urea, it can burn plants in a hip.

Re: Urea or NPK? Which fertilizer should i apply to bananas?
We give ours 15-15-15, about a kg per year per pseudostem. Distributed every two weeks with additional folear spray feeding of 20-20-20 during the dry/irrigation months. Once they are fruiting we give them extra amount of 0-0-50 sulfate of potash to enlarge the fruit. So about 4g every two weeks per pstem, of each type of fertilizer. This is working for us.

15-15-15 Bananas are heavy feeders. Also add lots of composted organic matter.

All I can suggest is to try dissolving one kg of your pellets into warm water, then mix into 200 liters of water and test spray. You should be seeing results quite quickly. Keep us informed about results. |
