The thing is you can always take out pups and give them away if you start to see that there are too many. At least you live in a zone where they got as shot in the ground. Only musa basjoos are bullet proof here. All my other ones are in pots and taking over! None are close to flowering though (Im prediciting if all goes well I will get my super dwarf cavendish to flower in 2 years).

I would only buy bannas that you are really wanting very badly at this point because everntually there wont be any room left.

Good luck!

Eh, you can NEVER have too many BANANAS!!! LOL. You do have quite a few though. The key thing with any plant/landscaping project is to think MATURE SIZE when planting things. Know how large (height and lateral spread) each plant will be and try not to overcrowd them.

you have made a very good point here. it's nice you live in a nice climate where the winters arn't too bad. here it's like i have 2 choices i could keep mine going through out winter or let them go dormant...im choosing to let them grow cause i would like to see a slower in the next year. when they get bigger 8 feet or so inside is when im gonna really worry.i have stopped buying banana plants too. i have 10 different kinds and thats enough till these are big and have fruited. But over all i think if you have the room for them in winter and you love looking at them keep on growing/collecting ! i know Cheryl has sooo many beautiful ones all in pots for some reason i will ask her why they arnt in the yard somewhere next time i talk with her. anyway shes just gotten into this habbit last year and i will really be amazed by the end of the year to next year when i see the hight of some of her plants!! they are beautiful.

You can NEVER have too many. You might not have enough "dirt", but you can't have too many bananas. You just need the right house.

If is a simple diagnostic issue. If your bananas exceed you space, and you know that you can't have too many bananas, the only logical conclusion is that you have too little dirt. This can re remedied by increasing you space in one several ways. Getting a different house with more space, making your existing house smaller, convincing you neighbor to donate his house to you and moving out and then tearing it down, etc. Once you correctly identify the problem, you can get to work on a solution.

Sometimes less is more...

Maybe cut back in one section of your lawn. Some species seem to have no problems growing in tight clusters, lavendar ornata and praying hands for us, other species do better with a little more room.

Try some different growth groups and see what works best under your conditions.

Salty is definitely on the right track.

If you still have lawn, then you can't have too many bananas. If you still have Oleanders, Heliconias, Bouganvillea, Roses, Iris, or anything else that is non-banana, then you can't possibly have too many bananas.
