Default Something is eating my "Manzano"'s leaves.

What is eating my Manzano's leaves? It look like a shotgun was used. I suspect Chinese Rose beetle, as I have seen some small dark beetles around. I used a pesticide on my roses for them, but I am reluctant to use on an edible plant.

I am in Honolulu, Hawaii. Zone 11
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Al

It sounds just like what leafroller damage looks like here on the mainland. Do you have leafrollers in Hawaii? Do a search here and you'll find a post from not too long ago with some pics of what leafroller damage looks like.

Thanks Bananaman88,
Unfortunately we have both. I will look for signs of the leafroller. I think I am going to get some Neem with Azadirachtin. Amazon carries it.

I use a product with Bt in it to keep them off of my cannas. It acts on members of the Lepidoptera family so if you're really into butterflys you may not want to use it. Dipel and Thuricide both contain Bt.

Thanks for the reply.
Actually I don't see too many butterflies over here. Maybe were off the flyway.

I watered yesteday and the little (3/8) bettles came running out. I squished, sorry Ladies, about five of them. I also noticed some small caterpillers, but without my glasses all I could do was squish them. They were 1/2"-3/4" long but not very wide, like a spagetti. They weren't centipedes.

I ordered some "Neem" yesterday and I think I will have to cancel. The Qt of Neem was $24. and the shipping was $27. OUCH! I don't know why companies think they have to send everything to Hawaii by 2nd Day Air. A flat rate box from the Post Office work just as good and is less than $10.

Maybe you can answer this? There are two types of Neem. One is 100% Neem with Azadirachtin in it. This has been proven to stop the Chinese Rose Beetle. This is hard to find. The other is a product with 70% Clarified with all the good properties taken out.

Anyone have any experience with either?
Thanks,
Al

if you have a lowes or a homedepot neem is 11.00 a qt. but its concentrated, so you mix it with water. i have only heard of one type of neem, it comes from the neem tree in i think africa.
