Musa Java Blue - planted June 2010, repotted earlier this week to this much larger pot.
We're in the DC area so we wintered it indoors last year.
We've got a (maybe) 12 foot ceiling in our living room, but ... I dunno about this winter ...

Picture was shot today after work. Lookin' like a happy 'nana tree to me!

Its just been a week !

Sorry, but the speed of growth is amazing me and all my friends ...
This picture was taken Sat 7/23, basically a week after the last picture.
Granted, we are having a nasty heat wave in the DC area right now,
and its obvious the plant is loving it ...!!

Still lookin' like a happy 'nana tree to me!

Well, All I know is that's what the vendor told me when I bought it last year -
"The banana man - aka Greenearth Inc." Banana Plants and Banana Trees

If true, I guess I need to give him some grief for selling me the wrong plant!
It was poorly packed as well - loose in the tube and got badly banged up,
but I used wood skewers and built splints for it, and nursed it back to health ...

Tho if its not Ice Cream but a "Musa balbisiana" -
it sounds like its not really a desert fruit like I wanted ...?
My dad was looking forward to trying one of the ice cream bananas!

Well, there's always the two super-dwarf Cavendish plants out back I got from Sandy (Northern Tropics) last month ...
She's a good vendor, they were VERY well developed plants, and she packs them REALLY well!

And maybe I can get a Java Blue/Ice cream from someone who KNOWS its the

Irene blew by yesterday, with torrential rains most of the day and evening, and the winds got higher and higher as it got later at night.
At 2am Sunday it was gusting and pounding us pretty good - tho, of course, not as hard as the folks on the eastern shore of Maryland
or the folks on the coast got! Sounds like the Outer Banks got it the worst!
