Default Pseudostem drying up.

I just bought a large orinoco corm that the psuedostem was cut from 5' to about a foot or less for shipping I planted the corm and now it looks like the top is drying out. The body is still firm, but I was just curious if I should be concerned or is there anything I can do or is this just what happens until it starts to grow once the roots take hold. Here is a picture the day I planted it and then today picture.

First planted:

One Week later:

Thanks,
Chris

I'm surprised it showed no growth while in transit. If the corm is still alive it will probably send pups once it roots. Be careful about watering, keep it moist but not wet. Better off on the dry side to prevent any rot.

The cut end of the pstem is shriveled up. You did not get a freshly dug out sucker off the mat that was topped at the time it was shipped. Same applies to a potted pup. This is a croppy way of doing business. Tell the seller you want a fresh corm off the mat. Interesting to see what they say.

What was the condition of the roots? No way can a topped corm look that bad in a week!

The roots were great, tons of them and there were two pups starting to come off of it. The corm and pseudostem looked fresh. when it came is was not that dried that has happened over the last 7 days. The psuedostem was freshish and you could tell the center had started to put out about 3/4" in the center but that has dried now. Should I dig it up to see how it is or just leave it and see what happens.

Thanks,
Chris

Just leave it, it should be fine. It may start growing from the cut shoot, or it could just make more suckers.

Yes, just leave it. maybe you let it get to dry and it looks that way. You could use your hand and dig around it to see if the soil is still moist.

I cut about 3/4" off the top and it is very fresh and I checked the soil under the mulch and it is damp. So I will just wait it out.

Well it finally started to grow. It dried out a little more so i had to trim that and then that area got really wet and mushy so i trimmed that and then in the last three days the growth has exploded. The cut portion of the pseudostem is leaking water like crazy I figured this is normal now that the roots have finally got established and it is taking up a lot of water.
