![]() Hi Rebel, I acquired ab E. Maurellii this spring and plan on wintering it outdoors in HZ6. For protection I intent to use my newly devised Permanent banana shelter for winter and spring Have a look there, you might find it interesting. Three shelters, two for single PS and one to accommodate a whole pad cost a total of less than $60.-. For the E. Maurellii I plan to augment that with a passive "heating system", tapping into the ambient temperature of the lower soil strata. So far it is just an idea. I will get at it after I finished a couple of current projects, probably next month. I can assure you, that it will also be very cheap. Best, Olaf

![]() CTPalm,,,he does. In fact that's why I paid him a visit to see exactly what he has done to maintain the height he has. I have never seen any this tall and thick around this part of the country.
He said after the first light frost he cuts all leaves off and cuts the top off. Then wraps with, not clear plastic but the translucent plastic that painters use for a drop cloth. I ask about using clear and he said on a warn bright Winter day there would be to much direct heat and may kill the tree. He has several others in the yard that he does the same with every Winter. Keep in mind,,,our Winters only consist of possibly 4 or 5 days of below freezing and always have a few days here and there that may reach a sunny 50 to 60 * so understand about not using the clear plastic. By the way,,,like those you have,,especially that E. Maurellii you have potted. Olaf,,,,,like you engineering skills. One heck of an idea. I'll have several smaller plants I may do this with this Winter but if I can get away with foam coolers this year, I may use those but if to large,,will give your Nannerfoam a try for sure. Great job.. Last edited by Rebel : 07-16-2013 at 06:54 PM. |
