Hello,

I have some big seedlings of Musa sikkimensisxornata, a new hybrid which is available on the market only since a short time and I whould like to show you photos of them.
The seeds are rather small and look like ornata seeds. The upper side of the leaves are typical for sikimensis hybrids. Also intresting is the axilla which looks similar to zaifui sp. nova.

Yes these seeds are rather difficult to germinate with low germination rate. My experience is that banana seeds that are produced by hybridization have a lower germination rate and the seedlings that had germinate have rather big differences to each other. But seeds that produced from that hybrids have a good germination rate.
There are some populations of hybrids in nature already since a long time, that I know. For example Musa itinerans.
A friend of mine has seedlings that he produced by hybridization of sikkimensis and yunnaniensis. Also a very intresting banana.

I am very pleased that I have just had one of these sprout, only one though so I hope it doesn't damp off!

Marcus do you know when they are likely to flower? Are they self pollinating like ornata?
