I have a Musa Itinerans that is about 4 months old and is only about 6 inches tall, it keeps sending leaves out at the same height and they keep coming out wrinkled and brown at the tips, and the brown bits spread down towards the stem. I keep trimming off the brown bits but the stem never turns brown. I’ve tried to upload images but they keep failing. I’ve uploaded a couple on Imgur. I heard this banana is very cold hardy and have expected it to grow way more than it has. My basjoo has rocketed past it in height (about 4 times as large) even though it’s only about 3 months old. Again sorry about the upload I couldn’t figure it out, was wondering if anyone could help me out. Thanks.

The plant will not grow when the temperature is low and sunlight is at a minimum. The plant is still a tropical. When your avg temps are 75-90 and daylight is 13+ hours the plant will perk up a bit. Cold hardy means the ability of a plant to resist damage when exposed to low temperatures. It does not mean the plant will thrive and grow at lower temperatures as some forum members are implying. |

Are these pups? Sometimes the small pups will not fair will over winter but will come back when the temps. are better. The plants grow slow or go dormant in the winter season and too much water can rot the roots. If not pups a smaller pot may help. As said these are Tropical plants, the continental U.S. is not. Basjoo even needs protection in some zones.
