Hi guys my musa ice creams been in ground for about 2 months now and has not grown at all.Nore has it died at all.Is this normal? Are thay really that slow growing? thanks..daz

How big is it, what are the growing conditions? When and where did it come from?

I brought one pup about 4 feet tall to this house 2 years ago March. It just put out a flower 2 weeks ago from the tallest stem, has 2 other tall stems and about 8 stagered size pups. NOT a slow grower for me. BUT sometimes it takes a while for a single new plant to get going. Then again, this is S Florida too.

Bought of ebay.Growing in a border in good compost.Its currently about 6 inches and four leaves as i said its looked like this for ages now..daz

I recently bought a couple Ice Creams from GreenEarth. They came only about 6" tall but they've put out a new leaf every 5-7 days and doubled in size in a few weeks. If yours isn't growing at all, something is wrong.

Doesn't sound good. I would have kept it in a 2 gallon pot till it was much bigger. Easier to manage and do the TLC thing.

Thanks guys .I think your right i put it out to early.This is my first year trying to grow bananas.I think its a case of impationce i think.,:rollerbananadone:

Redtail was the plant well rooted when you got it ? I may have just been severed from a parent and not had a chance to put out a lot of root.

It may just be sulking. Give it a couple of weeks with feed and water and see how it goes.

Occasionally I have planted out a small pup that was severed from the corm and it just sat there. After building up some energy, it put out a pup which started growing great and then the original one died off. This has happened more that once. So maybe yours is doing that?

If it is still green and living, IT'S DOING SOMETHING DOWN THERE. Hang tight.

Hi guys thanks for the advice.The plant was grown from seed its just started to grow a new leaf however its still verry slowmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....daz

A true 'Ice Cream' is a clone and not from seed. I keep TC plants and corms in 5-7g pots until I plant them out usually in Spring ahead of the S FLA rainy season.

May I ask where you obtained the presumed Ice Cream banana seed?

In my post where I asked what it was when you obtained it, I specifically left 'seed' out for a reason, because as Marc stated, on this cultivar, seed is not an option.

Hi yea ill tack a pic in a few mins.The reason i say from seed is cos its so small! im only assumming its from seed i may be wrong.Im verry new to growing nanas so please dont shoot me lol.Pic to follow..daz

OK that could very well be Ice Cream, but it was a TC; not grown from seed.
It's probably putting it's energy into root growth. It looks great despite the cuts and bruises. Amending the soil with fresh organic matter or feed spikes etc probably wouldn't hurt.

Go to Home Depot or Walmart garden centers. Ask them about "Jobe's fruit tree spikes". They look like "wood spikes" that you drive in the ground for securing your tent. But they're made of some organic material that is driven into the ground a certain distance from the plant, where the moisture in the ground soaks into it releasing the nutrient from it.

I would not recommend a blend where the Phosphorus is higher than the Nitrogen and Potassium components, e.g. the Tomato blend(8-24-8), etc. Request one with something like a 16-4-4 or 16-8-8 blend. I don't know if there a spike with a 12-8-16 blend, but that would be ideal.
