Re: Musa Bordelon Help
I live near you and I have new cigar leaves coming out with discoloration spots. Additionally the plants are no longer transpiring. I have asked similar questions....it HAS been hot for a LOOOOOONG time. Cannot recall it being under 95 for over 2 weeks.

Re: Musa Bordelon Help
It's heat. Some shading from the hot afternoon sun and misting the plants will help some. You said the Basjoe is doing OK, is it getting some shade?

Re: Musa Bordelon Help
When the plant releases water...sweating if you will. Usually in the AM.

Re: Musa Bordelon Help
They all get the same amount of sun. The plant is still short enough so I can try throwing something over it to shade it for the time being..

I must have not saved the rest of the comment while editing. Noooo do not toss it(the banana) out.. I was tossing out the comment.lol The plant seems to be showing heat related issues. A few of my plants do the same thing when it heats up. A contributing factor could be the black mulch heating the soil. While I am a fan of black mulch and have used it for years I have noticed it heats up pretty quick and kills plants. Go out and walk on it barefoot. The heated soil will cause root issues which can have an adverse effect such as what you are seeing. If the plant is newly planted within a month or two(like the photo from your other post) the root structure might not be developed enough to support the plants water requirements in the added heat. From the photo the rest of your plants express that it is pretty hot in Sacramento. Prolific Bordelons are an awesome ornamental plant and once established in your garden will provide great color and texture. Last edited by cincinnana : 07-26-2018 at 10:41 AM. |

Re: Musa Bordelon Help
Thanks for the help everyone. I cut down on watering but would also mist it three times a day and the new leaf came in normal.
