So, I'm totally new to bananas this year, I bought two small (6") basjoos early spring, and because of our crazy weather this year, they got planted outside much later than planned. I surely didn't expect pups already this year!!! I was amazed with the first one....now, today, I've discovered THREE more!! One of my basjoos looks better, fuller, and a little taller than the other, and that's the one that produced the first pup, which now has 5 leaves on it. Now, it has two more, and the smaller one has a pup itself!
My plan, eventually, is to winter these guys outside, cutting down and mulching/covering well, but I think for the first winter I will need to dig them up and bring them in the basement. I will most likely move the second one, since it doesn't seem to be thriving quite as well where it's at. It gets a bit more dappled sunlight due to some taller plantings in front of it....that's the only difference. But, I wanted to show off the pups! Invested in two basjoos in March, and now there are 6! Angie Larger pup hiding behind the p-stem ![]() ![]() |

My goodness...they're multiplying like rabbits! Another one "pupped" up now! 4 on one, still one on the other! They were just pups themselves this spring!
