M. basjoo to develop fruit???
Hi all:
My question is, is it possible for M.basjoo to develop edible fruit if it gets pollinated, let's say with any common edible banana, or even a M. laterita that happens to have an emerging fruit bunch +/- at the same time as the basjoo plus the bee/butterfly/hummingbird pollinators also around? Basjoo is extremely picky about wich musa can pollinate it. As far as I know, only m.formosana and other m. basjoo can cross-pollinate.
As far as edible fruit is concerned, I have heard the flesh of m. basjoo bananas is supposed to taste OK, but since it's loaded with seeds it's probably impossible to eat. "There is not enough in a fruit", some wiseguy said about sikkimensis. Same probably applies here! Wich brings me to another question: Why are there no seeds from musa basjoo on the market yet?
