Re: Hy Brazilian
this mite be a bit premature but after growing the HY for almost three weeks i can say this about it "out paces all my other Bananas it looks like its on steroids" its about 6" tall now were as the other baby's Banana plants i have like the montycristo are all only 3" tall not really scientific just and observation at this point but as i indicated earlier in this thread this ones been developed by the FHIA program for those of you growing some of there plants you know they are amazingly hardy and fast growing selctions only time will tell i highly recomend this Banana for any one that wants a fast grower with pretty red pedeals i cant Waite until it fruits o and lastly no sign of the rumored double P-stem yet!?

Re: Hy Brazilian
just a quick update on the HY its doing grate out of all the bananas it so far the most cold hardy as are temps drooped down in to the 40 at night for over 2 weeks and it just kept its composure not a brown spot on it and are humidity has been as low as 6% a couple of days in a row all the other young bananas look like hell its still pushing out new leafs although at a much slower pace i think this ones going to be the brake through for harsh climates in the cooler weather the red on its pedeals fades a bit more updates to come

Re: Hy Brazilian
OK the Hy Brazilian has just been planted out in the east side of the house this week so i took some pictures to show you its really in my opinion a beautiful banana look that the markings and the bigger the leaf gets the more striking it has that kind of camouflage type color not the typical striping you normally see on plants with colored foliaged its about 12" tall
when i planted it the root structure was amazing the pot was full and the roots them self were quite thick and large for such a Small plant just based on that I'm going to say this plants going to be quite drought resistant here are some pictures

Re: Hy Brazilian
Nice plant, Pauly, I hope it grows well for you this summer. Please keep us updated on this as it progresses. Any idea if those markings continue with older leaves?
Thanks, Harvey |
