Default Growing different bananas close together?

I bought an ice cream banana plant from Wellspring Gardens. But thanks to my neighbor I have an invasive plantain grove at the back of my property. I was hoping to plant the ice cream plant in the back of my property as well. But should I plant the ice cream banana far away from the plantains or it does not matter? Will the plantains "infect" my plant?

Welcome to Banana Bunch. you should introduce yourself in the New Member forum.

It really doesn't mater. But I would plant the BJ a few feet away from the plantations. These are not likely to cross breed since they only propagate by root suckers. ... So be careful you are going to have a whole bunch of little Bananas. The banana & plantations should be a happy Bunch.

I completed a short intro, thanks. I must confess I am entering this hobby with great speculation. I do not want my backyard to turn into a Banana Republic!

Obviously ... you haven't sat under the cool shade of Bananas sipping a Beer (or homemade wine).

I once brewed mead, a long long time ago, and now I bake sourdough bread (much MUCH neater). I am Cuban, my wife Jamaican, and we are wary of the dangers of an aggressive corm.

Having the plants close together should not really cause any big problems, but maybe a few things to consider.

Banana plants have a large root zone. When you water or fertilize your plant, your neighbors plant may benefit from it. Also your neighbors plant could give your plant some unwanted shade and slow it down.

Bananas for fruit will not cross pollinate or anything like that, but pests and disease could cross over more easily if they are close together.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.
