I cut down a Tall Brazilian to move to work and found the flower inside the 'trunk'. Bummed. Last week my wife wanted me to take this tree down in the front yard and take it to work too...it's part of my planetary banana take-over of Earth.
Was pretty sure the 1/2 leaf was the flag. Noticed the flower peeking out when I got home from work a few hours ago


Glad I didn't cut 'er down. Cold and wind front moving in this evening.
Little confused here.... I feed every Sunday. Temps still 75f and humid during the day and usually between 60-65f at night. Should I increase feed till the hands are done OR till the fruit is plump OR till the temp stays under 57f OR or OR... The plant gets about 7 hrs of sunlight everyday. I want to push the plant for yield but not rot it out of the hole.
Any input we be appreciated.

Awesome, Scott! Congratulations buddy! Oh, so sorry about the one that was cut. Do you think it can still progress if you pot it right back up quickly? I'm afraid I just don't know enough to help you at this point. I know a little bit like growth slows down in the cold, but I think you can wrap the plant with Christmas lights and other protective material to keep warmth in. You still have pretty warm temps there if you are still in the 60's at night. You know -- there are large pop-up greenhouses that you could put over the banana, depending upon it's height. I have used these in previous years, and they were great. This one is 78" tall: FlowerHouse FHSP300 SpringHouse portable greenhouse I'm sure someone else with more experience will come along and help you out. Your two Brazilians at my house are doing great in the ground and still growing. We are getting into the 50's at night now.

Hi Clare.
The one I cut down was waaaay further along than I thought. There were a few pups attached so I cut it down to the corm and planted it at work. They'll profit from the nutrients but the lose is a bummer.
Your plumerias are all potted up in soil. Will put in a cactus mix after these showers. They actually come in when the rains hit. They're not ready for soakers yet.

Ouch -- so sorry about the cut stem with the flower. It will be nice for your station to have bananas there next year. I'm sure everyone will appreciate that.

I'm glad to hear that the plumerias are doing well for you! I wouldn't worry about the rain, but you can put the cuttings against the house under the eave for the winter if they are in containers. As long as they aren't sitting in wet soil for a long period of time, then they should be fine. The rooted ones don't need to be protected from the rain and would probably benefit from it. The wind/cold front sounds lousy though. We're getting that here too. See if you can put the outdoor Christmas lights around your flowering banana for the winter. Your wife might like that!
