I have been trialing plants to use in my "tropical looking" landscape. I live in 8b which qualifies as the second runner up to tropical. Close but not quite. My plants usually are trashed or dormant in the Winter.
What do you consider you zone to be? Can you give a city close to where you live for reference?

They get a feeding 8-8-8 in the early spring and a top dressing of black cow composted manure in late summer I also re mulch in the fall with pine mulch.
