dwarf orinco
I have a dwarf orinco that is in its second year. It is not allowing the leaves to completely come out before putting out a new one. It is like it is bound up Is there a reason that this is happening? It is about 6 ft tall. Any help is appreciated

Re: dwarf orinco
I have some non orinocos that do that a little when its cold. Other than that I just read about a disease called bunchy top and those plants are no good.

It is choking! Usually only Raji Puri does this. It could also be bunching real tight because its about to shoot a flower. Try feeding some Nitro on it, should make it push.

Re: dwarf orinco
Some of my bananas had new leaves get stuck/rolled up in the prior leaf after I added used chicken shavings around them. I think it was due to too much nitrogen and improper N-K ratio. Do you have a picture?

Re: dwarf orinco
They do this when they are brought inside for the winter. My dwarf orinico does it more then the rest. My mother plant and all the pups I separated are doing this and now that they are outside they are starting to straighten them selves out. With the mother plant I just tore some of the leaves to open it up more so it don't choke.now I have the newest cigar leaf exposed now and it should start working its way back to normal. I will post some pics later but I would say this is normal if you over wintered them inside. With the orinico I find they like to shed the outer leaf sheaths also and before long you should be getting back to a normal looking plant.

Re: dwarf orinco
You may actually need MORE fertilizer. Higher in nitrogen.
Those are healthy looking plants, but yes, try a higher nitrogen. |

That pot is way too small. Not sure that's causing the issue, however. |
Re: dwarf orinco
Yeah it's been in the pot too long but made it easy to overwinter and not over water it. It's one of the pups not the mother plant.
Your plant looks better off then mine and it will straighten itself out. Think it is from the growth rate slowing and now growth rate is increasing.the one big pup attached to the mother has almost adjusted on mine. |
Re: dwarf orinco
If you moved outside, that condition is typical occasionally for Orinoco to choke. Not to worry. Just clean up as nessessary.
