![]() Are Cavendish bananas edible or just ornamental? I have 2 that are fruiting now and was wondering if they will be as good as my ice cream ones that I just harvested.
Thanks! |

![]() Cavendish bananas are dessert bananas - edible without cooking. In fact, Cavendish bananas are the bananas you've been buying from the grocery store your whole life.
I've never tried an Ice Cream banana but, by reputation, it is a better tasting banana than Cavendish. That said, if you like the bananas at your store, you'll have no problem with what you're growing. |

- Proper fertilization - Cutting the flower (not sure what the thoughts are on this practice around here - whether to do it or not, when to do it, etc.) - Propping the plant when it's weighted down by bananas - When to harvest bananas (maturity vs ripened, ripening on the plant vs off the plant, etc.) - Anything else the experienced folks around here have to offer |
