Brazillian Red flowering

The Brazillian red in my back yard is just flowering, seems a little small to be doing so. Maybe it's not a brazillian red. Anyway, weird time of year to be flowering but it's been happening that way at my place lately.

The stem is about 7ft tall.

Hmmm, seems pretty short for a Brazilian. Maybe it's a dwarf Brazilian. Either way, congratulations on the flower!

I suppose it could be a dwarf but I purchased it as tall.

I've never heard of a 'Brazilian Red', where did you get it? Any photos?

I think I got it from either banana_tree.com or greenearth. I don't have any current pics, but I think there is a pic of next to my rajapuris in an old post of mine. I will try to get a pic up in the next couple of days.

I found a reference to the name 'Brazilian Red' as a synonym (in French Polynesia) to what we call 'Brazilian'. That doesn't mean they are the same plant, too often the names of plants are mixed up and confused, so if you can get photos that would really help to say what it is since 'Brazilian Red' is a rather uncommon name, especially since it somewhat implies that it may be similar to, but different from 'Brazilian'.

Flowering is a result of maturity or stress. Bananas do not react to environmental cues (such as temperature or day length) to initiate flowering like some other plants, so the thought that it is an unusual time to be flowering for a banana is somewhat irrelevant. Generally, the things a banana could do that would deviate from a "normal" flowering cycle is either to flower early or late relative to maturity, independent of the time of year providing it is actively growing.
