Well, let's say it this way, I have had some really good Blue Java bananas which were filled in very well and ripened on the plant, while I had some that were not worth the time and water I had spent on growing them (tough in the center). In my opinion none of them had the often described vanilla taste, but a really nice one can have the ice cream custard texture.
Overall, the ones I have had were not consistent, but if harvested at the right time, I like them a lot.

sorry to report but the banana plant fell down. I guess a gust of wind knock it down. I woke up yesterday morning and as usually did my rounds of checking all my plants and trees. And then I saw the whole plant on the ground.

The fruit was still too small. It was starting to fill in. So there was no way of saving it. By the afternoon, the fruit was turning black.

Wow, that's horrible. I was really enjoying the updates, and was waiting for a happy ending.

Was there any indication it may tip? Surprising it would just keel over without excessive wind/rain.

Well it is not over yet, just a set back. It has 2 daughter pups. Hopefully next year it will be ready for another bunch. I am thinking of separating the 2 remaining plants. I might move one them to the front of the house. Less wind and better production.

It was leaning towards the side it fell too. I was thinking of putting some support but I would imagine later since the fruit was not that big. I will post pics of the tragedy.

NO!!!! So sorry to hear.
Blue Java is a leaner in general and should be propped with a fruit bunch.

One of the pups is about 4 feet high. Hopefully winter isn't too cold. I might have another bunch for the summer. All in due time!! Not giving up!!

well next year you will have more pups. you can make your farm a little larger, looks like have the room. you can sit on the couch and avoid problems or you can roll up your sleeves and learn from them.

I have some what of a large backyard. I also have a manzano(which is about to flower as well), and Orinoco. A couple of citrus and avocado trees. I might add more to my collection next year.

It freezes every so often but not as bad. I am not a fan of guava. lol. I can't stand the smell of the fruit.
