basjoo, or sikkimensis in a local backyard

Got some decent photos, and I will try to make good relations with the homeowner, and acquire a pup. I already have one Basjoo, of which I of which i may post later, but must come back later to post this local Basjoo lookalike. It looks to have red bracts and not yellow, although the rest is looking like Basjoo plant and fruit.

I continually have difficulties between this forum and tablets which reload on each tab opening, or it dying... Again I post, maybe this will complete without much more trouble...

These are photos of the plants we want ID, and hope to obtain pup, to bring home and reflect our Basjoo.

What is is, I do not know. It isn't a Basjoo. As you pointed out,wrong color bloom.

Are you the same person with 2 different handles or 2 different people? It would help to know locations of members; I put that information on my profile. The pictures sure look like an edible banana to this novice. Are we discussing 2 different locales and plants?

2 different people's handles, Mother and son, living together. This is Mom.

We mentioned the Basjoo we have, and will soon show it. The plant in reference right now is showing above.

No clue where you and your son live, Debbie, but the banana in the picture looks like an eating one to me. It also looks like it's happy where it lives so I'd definitely ask about a pup.

We grow bananas and other tropical fruits and veggies in zone 10a Cape Coral, FL. Southwest FL. Inland climate only 30 min from the coast.

And as far as it being a Not Basjoo, I would like to consider the color and mutation of it.. Maybe they are more red than yellow, I haven't a good photo of the insides.. And I found a link here, Musa basjoo (banana) in flower photo - Kelvin Taylor photos at pbase.com with a reddish Basjoo flower. I hope for diversity, but would like another Basjoo from different climate. Ours is transplanted from Lafayette, LA.

Haha! I kinda thought the landscape looked Floridian. I don't raise basjoos but I believe Mark does and he does not believe that is one. Could be wrong. Best way to know is to ask for a piece of fruit, cut it open and post that picture for basjoo growers to evaluate. Have family in Lafayette...

Looks like Orinoco to me. I'm no expert just my guess.

It is not 'Orinoco' or M. basjoo, but rather looks to be a type of Saba. Can you get any photos of the freshly fallen male flowers?

The bit of yellowish color on the underside of the bud is unusual, but it doesn't look like the entire surface is yellow.

Gabe has seen and grown many more bananas than I have. I would try to get those pictures he is looking for.

I agree with Kat that the banana is worth growing and if a pup is available, get it.
